Despite embarking on their maiden continental adventure, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Without key figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a comfortable result that virtually guarantees them a place in the Conference League qualifying rounds.

Another victory in their next match against Finnish KuPS should be enough to secure straight entry to the knockout stages, especially after a prior stumble against Strasbourg.

Fringe Players Seize the Moment

This match offered a chance for some of Palace's lesser-used players to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second beginning after joining on loan from Getafe, notched the account with a clinical finish. Forward Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, scoring for the second game in match.

A Shelbourne team that had concluded their league season were no match even for a largely second-string Palace lineup. The Londoners were further depleted by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with leg problems.

The home side were clinging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for a couple of agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the woodwork with a header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.

Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest key individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring his very first touch, only to see his shot blocked.

The youngster was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also blazed a glaring chance, indicating there is still room for development in his game.

The only worry for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his senior debut, capping an otherwise positive evening for the traveling side.
